How to Turn a Bad Mood Day Around

Do you feel like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed? From having an argument with a friend to forgetting an important appointment, there are plenty of things that can trigger a bad mood day. Sometimes all it takes is waking up feeling irritable. With all the demands of being a working mom, it can be tough to face the day when you aren’t feeling your best. Here is some advice on how to turn your bad mood day around.

Remember to breathe deeply

When you start to feel stressed or irritated, take a moment to observe your breath. Often bad moods are accompanied by shallow breathing. You can help yourself to feel relaxed by taking a few deep breaths. Sometimes, amidst the chaos of being a mom, you don’t get a gap to yourself. If you can’t take time out in a quiet space, you can focus on your inhalations and exhalations while you’re cooking dinner or while you’re busy with the kids.

Get your body moving

Physical activity stimulates endorphins and helps to elevate your mood. While going to gym is a great way to stay fit, there are plenty of other ways to get active if you just don’t have time for that. Put on your favourite song and dance around the house with your kids. Take your kids for a walk to the park so you and your family can get some fresh air. When you’re at work, you can take a break to do some stretches to get the blood flowing so that you can concentrate better.

Hug your family

If you’re feeling down, a hug can go a long way to making you feel better. Hug your kids. Not only will it lift your mood, it will help them to feel loved and cared for too. Taking the time to hug your partner can also help to strengthen your relationship. Sometimes we get so busy that we forget to tell the people that we love the most how much we care about them. Having a loving relationship helps to improve your quality of life and reduces the impact of bad moods.

Choose happiness

Bad moods are contagious. Choose happiness for your own sake as well as for the sake of your family and co-workers. Instead of focusing on everything that’s going wrong, take a moment to think about the things that you can be grateful for. Taking a step back and getting a fresh perspective can help you to stay positive while you’re finding solutions to the problems that you’re facing. Not only will positive thinking make you feel better, it will also boost your productivity.

Help someone else

When you do something to brighten up someone else’s day, you’ll immediately feel better about yourself. Whether it’s telling your children that you’re proud of them or complimenting your partner, there are plenty of ways to make someone else’s day better. Complimenting a co-worker or donating to charity are other ways to spread good vibes. Not only does helping someone else play a role in lifting your mood, it also creates a positive support network that you can rely on. Good deeds usually have a way of coming back to you.

Do something that makes you feel good

Take a bath, meditate, read a book or go for a walk. There are plenty of activities that can help to improve your mood. Connecting to friends is another great way to improve your mood. If you’re at work, you could take a short break to watch a funny YouTube video. Laughter or even a smile will help to make you feel better. If you don’t have much time to spare, you could also visualise a place that makes you feel calm and safe. Even a short visualisation can help you to relax.

Declutter

Whether you clean your desk at work or your bedroom, getting organized can help you to think clearly. A decluttered and supportive living space goes a long way towards helping you to feel better. Give away the stuff that you don’t need so that other people can benefit from the stuff that you have no use for.
